A sample application : You are an EDI facilitator
With InterNEDI, each of your customers is treated as a GROUP, and each of the customer's sites is regarded as a USER in that group. Your customers can send documents to each other, either on a person-to-person basis, or on a person-to-group basis. Documents sent like this are not visible to any other groups. You would be the Super User and can keep an eye on everything.
Here are some of the InterNEDI features that will meet your needs:
Feature Description Why this is useful
Multiple group InterNEDI has been designed to handle groups of users seamlessly. It can accommodate up to 65000 groups, each of which can hold any number of users. Permissions are set per-user, not group-wide, so each user can have permissions tailored to his specific needs and restrictions. There is also a Super Group that has some of the privileges of the Super User, but with relevant restrictions as well. One can also have an anonymous group, but for your purposes you would disable it. Security and ease of use. Keep your customers separate from each other, but allow you, as the Super User, to see everything that's going on.
Automatic working Since the whole idea of EDI is to AUTOMATE and speed up business processes, InterNEDI can run completely automatically, where various tasks (send, receive, delete) can be programmed beforehand and performed each time it is run. These could be things like fetching all new orders, sending out waiting delivery notes to companies that need them etc. Thousands of tasks can be programmed in, and performed in sequence each time InterNEDI is activated. Almost all manual mode options are available in auto mode, plus some extra ones that allow InterNEDI to make intelligent decisions about what to do when faced with various situations. Automate everything ! Save time and reduce chance of errors from human intervention.
Send file/s to be executed If your customers are using other EDI software supplied by you, you can use InterNEDI to distribute new versions of it to your customers. If changes need to be made at their sites (such as modifying data files etc.) you can write a program to perform the changes, and send it to be executed at the necessary sites. When your program quits, it returns specified error codes to InterNEDI, which are then returned to you much like a receipt confirmation. By checking the list of received error codes you can see at which sites your program was executed correctly (error code 0) and at which there were problems. When sending, you can specify how many times you wish InterNEDI to re-try running your program if it returns a non-zero error code. Keep your customers happy ! Fix or change things automatically at their sites without their even knowing it. Keep them running smoothly.
User and Group labels Users and groups are identifiable by a label similar to that which email uses. When your customer sends to a specific user or group (company, in this context), he selects by label. When he looks through the listing of files, the sender is identified by the same label. Unlike email, these labels may contain spaces. Everyone can be assigned an easy-to-remember label, and thereafter everything is traceable - who a file is from, who it's for, who's received it so far, etc.
To user, group, or all When your customers send a file they can select to send to a single user, a single group, or to all standard users at once. When sending to a group, they simply specify the group label. They do not need to concern themselves with the the individual members of that group — you as the Super User will maintain that list yourself. They can also send to all users, though that is more likely to be of use to you than to them. Users save time by not having to maintain lists of who is a member of what group - you do that and your users simply select the group to send to. Even if new members are added to a group afterwards, they will be able to get that data.
Confirmation of receipt Your customers can specify that confirmation of receipt is sent back to them when their documents are received. When they next log on, all confirmations sent in the intervening period are displayed, and if they choose, are also saved to a history file that can be viewed later. Unlike email, where confirmations are received mixed up in the inbox, InterNEDI confirmations are treated differently from a normal receive and are stored separately and viewed separately. When viewing, various filters can be applied and sorting performed. Documents can thus be tracked, and with a few clicks you can get a picture of what is happening.
Add a cover note They may add a cover note to any document that they send, or just send a cover note on its own. This can be a short note, or a long explanation running to many pages, and is like sending a cover note with a fax. When the receiver fetches the file, the cover note is displayed in a separate window, in a large font, as the file receive begins. The receiver may opt to view only the cover note if he wishes, without receiving the whole file. If the receive was automated, and even if many received files had cover notes, they will remain on the screen until each one has been read. This can be used to send instructions, directions etc along with the document/s. Even if the process is fully automated, the cover notes can be kept in the InterNEDI history file and referred to later.
There are many more features of InterNEDI that will have relevance for your kind of business. Please refer to List of Major features and benefits for a comprehensive listing, or Why InterNEDI? for the thinking behind its design.
